Are you a resident of Hawaii?
Yes
Tell everyone a little bit about yourself
I've been helping folks in Hawaii apply technology in their daily lives and now I'm really excited to see if we can apply this to eDemocracy.

I believe in a few things that you should probably know about, especially within the context of this site:

- There is such a thing as right and wrong, good and evil. It's important do to right, good things and always work to avoid wrong and evil things.

- My fundamental value compass which directs me to discern between right and wrong, is God. The Christian religion, while not perfect nor infallible, is the one I get the majority of my values from.

- Government is systemically inefficient and necessarily so. Therefore the only way to have an efficient government is to have a smaller one.

- Individuals and organizations are significantly better at spending their own money than government is at spending other people's money. Therefore lower taxes means more money better spent on issues that matter most to people.

- Distributed systems are inherently more resilient against failure and far better at adapting to changing conditions. Therefore, a decentralized government with decision-making pushed out to the edge of the network is more responsive to the needs of its constituents and more resilient against non-democratic manipulation.

My public service history (in reverse chrono order):
- Hawaii Venture Capital Association board member (’08-present)
- Neighborhood Board #2 member (’07-present)
- Chamber of Commerce Small Business Council Chair (’07-’08)
- Hawaii Angels Executive Board Member (’05-’07)
- Chamber of Commerce Board Member (’03-’08)
- Lanakila Pacific Board Member (’03-present)
- PATCH Hawaii Board Member (’00-’02)

A ConCon is a shareholder’s meeting

Although my involvement with HawaiiConCon.org is mostly from a technical and perspective, I could not help but try to come up with a “Computer Minute” of what a Constitutional Convention (ConCon) really is and why it is a unique government function. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far and I’d love to get your feedback on it by commenting on my blog at HawaiiConCon.org: A ConCon is very much like a b Continue

Forum format changed

Some of you may have noticed that our forums look a little bit different. The layout was changed to be chronological as opposed to threaded. I think this will make them a little easier to follow. Please feel free to leave your feedback comments here.

Member update for May 28th, 2008

Aloha Kakou, Thanks to YOU, our demonstration of e-democracy is booming! As of today we have 134 members, more than the number of delegates in the 1978 ConCon. I would love to gather some kind of metric that compares the volume of discussions we’ve been having online to the ones that occurred in ’78 as I’m sure we will pass that milestone rapidly. If anyone has any ideas as to how to measure online vs. in-person activity, please let… Continue

Does Barrack Obama's message apply to us?

Regardless of your political position, you can't help but be inspired by the movement known as Barrack Obama. I recently found this anti-ConCon web site which was apparently launched in response to ours (when in fact our web site officially does not take a position either for or against ConCon). I've made it a point to welcome all folks to our site regardless of their position, so I quickly went to their blog and… Continue

Mahalo for being here at this moment with great technology for creating our egalitarian 'soap box'. What may come from a con-con is the best hope for our children and grand babies. Particularly if we can propose some salves for the 'festering sores' in how State Government is put together.

FYI in case anyone else reads this I'm a world-view libertarian, "devils advocate".

Aloha Peter,

Thank you for the welcome and I hope to make a positive contribution here. I am many things-but chicken is not one of them (did you note the spurs?).

Mr Kay, I have trying to dowload a copy of the ORIGINAL 1959 Hawaii state constitution. Can you help me? I want to see what has been changed and also would like to see what ammendments in previous con-cons have been struck down after being voted in. -mahalo, Frankie

Ready to Run™ Campaign Training

The Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women is sponsoring the "Ready to Run™ Campaign Training," on May 28, 2008, at the Hawaii State Capitol Auditorium, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. The workshop fee has been waived. This workshop is designed for women who want to run for elected office or who want work on a political campaign.

"Our one-day Ready to Run™ Campaign Training presents a unique opportunity for potential women candidates and campaign managers to hear directly from prominent elected and appointed leaders," said Sharon Ferguson-Quick, Executive Director. "We have assembled a veritable feast of campaign consultants, election officials and party representatives who will give women all the information they need to get ready to run."

The workshop is designed for women who want to add their voices to shaping our community, today, or in the future. Women who have ever considered running for elective office but weren't sure where to start are encouraged to attend. Participants will also receive information on how to get out and support candidates that are working on the issues they value in the community.

Participants will meet women in the community involved in the political process on multiple levels and begin to build their support networks. Keynote speakers are Governor Linda Lingle and U.S. Congresswoman Mazie Hirono. The participants will also hear from Kevin Cronin, CEO Office of Elections; Barbara Wong, Executive Director, Campaign Spending Commission about the election rules and regulations. Annelle Amaral, Former Legislator will present a session on Campaign 101. Jadine Neilson, Political Consultant, will speak on the special issues women face in politics. Debbie Shimizu, Hawaii State Democratic Party; Keiko Bonk, Green Party; and Linda Smith, Republican Party, will be available to meet with potential candidates. JoAnn Maruoka, League of Women Voters-Hawaii will lead a discussion about the pros and cons of having a Constitutional Convention.

The afternoon will feature the "If I Only Knew Then What I Know Now" panel with Senators Suzanne Chun-Oakland, and Jill Tokuda, and Representatives Marilyn Lee, Cynthia Thielen, Lynn Finnegan, Mele Carrol, Barbara Marumoto and former representative Lisa Naito sharing their inside information on what aspiring candidates really need to know.

Yeah I was a Young member but already a Trust officer at Bishop Trust. I had graduated from Whittier College in 1975 with a tour at the University of Copenhagen Denmark. My dad "Ike" was in the 1968 Con Con where I worked at the age of 15.
So do look at my website I mentioned for this Saturday for your other work.
