Lahaina Bypass
Federal money is on the way. Yesterday, we met with Rep. Hirono in Washington DC and it appears that Maui has a huge amount of federal money earmarked for the Lahaina bypasss project.
The question is, how many more years will West Maui residents and visitors tolerate the situation? The county was pro-active during the Arakawa administration procuring rights of way .
Do we need a Con Con to resolve the ceded lands issues for rights of way ? The legislature has not presented any reasonable solution. Construction will start soon on the first phase, but it may take several more lifetimes at the present rate to create a viable solution.
How can Maui encumber any and all allocated funds before they expire? Let's work on this issue. Oahu has rail on the way if Cliff doesn't de-rail it. We need roads !
