The July 3, 2008 issue of the Maui Weekly included a half page by Governor Linda Lingle on page 15 with the headline "A Con Con Would be Beneficial for the Entire State". She noted that "In 1996 Hawai'i voters cast more "yes" than "no" votes in support of a con con. However, that year the Hawai'i Supreme Court ruled that blank ballots be counted as "no" votes. Consequently, a con con hasn't been held in our state since 1978."
She also stated that Lt. Gov. Aiona is heading a committee studying the costs of a con con, that a report will be made by Aug 1 2008, and that "Residents can provide their comments to the task force at concon@hawaii.gov"

Yes we should, But the powerful Unions(HGEA) that have collective bargaining does not. As does the Business round Table, and former Con Con Delegates that like control kept in a centralized government. I have the book of the 30th reunion we had this year and it give great insight into the cons. Ask Jim Shon or others to tour the state on some junket.

Not only do I believe a ConCon is needed, I believe it comes as a wonderful opportunity to help Hawaii face a number of the multiple challenges it faces now and in the future. Grateful to have found this and glad to have joined!

We need a ConCon to return powers to the people that have been usurped by government bodies (Legislature and Judicial) and by power groups (Corporate lobbys, AMA. The Bar Association, etc.) I would like to see an amendment that required judges to tell jurors that they have always had the right to decide cases according to their own conscience and that the judges instructions about the law are for their instruction rather than orders they mist obey. I would also like to see a constitutional amendment that made explicit the constitutional limitations on the three branches of government forbiddding them making any laws or rules that deny or limit juries.
